Taste of Seoul 2026 will run October 23–29 at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and locations across Seoul. For food browsing, start with the DDP market or Dogok Market program; for a hands-on activity, look at workshops that require advance reservations.
The festival brings together chefs, restaurants and traditional markets for a citywide food week. Pick a program first: DDP is not a market open on all seven days.
A food week across Seoul
The DDP Taste of Seoul Market focuses on jipbap, everyday Korean home-style meals. Choose the Chefs’ Market in Art Hall 1 for chef and restaurant food, or the Grocery Market in Oullim Square for ingredients such as traditional fermented condiments and seasonal farm produce. Workshops also take place in Art Hall 1.
Dogok Market Food Culture Festa is listed for October 23, noon–5pm, at Dogok Market. Its program combines food, activity, flea-market and photo zones. This suits a visitor who wants a neighborhood market event with several kinds of things to browse, rather than a visit centered on chefs and groceries at DDP.
If October 23 is your only day in Seoul, Dogok has a program listed for that date. The festival’s opening day does not tell you when the DDP market opens. If you are in town all week, spread events across different dates instead of fitting every venue into one afternoon.
If you land on October 23, check your arrival time against Dogok’s noon–5pm hours before adding it. Landing that day is not the same as being ready for an afternoon market. If you only have the evening, the listed session will not work; with a free afternoon, the mix of food and non-food zones suits companions with different interests.
For a neighborhood food theme, Seochon’s October 26 tour focuses on palace-area streets and desserts. Namyeong-dong’s October 27 tour contrasts longstanding eateries with newer food venues. Seochon is the closer match if you like sweets and the palace neighborhood; Namyeong-dong compares older and newer food businesses. Food storytelling in Seongbuk-dong adds another neighborhood option. These are separate programs, not a route linking all three areas.
Workshops need a different plan
Both the Seoul Culinary Workshop and JIPBAP Workshop at the DDP market require advance reservations. One English-led option is the native-rice workshop, listed for October 25 at 3pm in the JIPBAP Workshop program. If a class is the reason for your visit, check that session first, since it names both the subject and the teaching language.
Other culinary experiences are listed for October 23 and 28, with a traditional Korean food program at Korea House on October 29. Eligibility, capacity and fees depend on the program. For the activities covered by the culinary-class page, check the session’s participation conditions, submit the application and wait for the organizer’s individual message to selected participants before planning around a place. That selection process belongs to these classes; the two DDP workshop tabs separately state their advance-reservation requirements.
The Majang-dong option extends into November
The related Majang-dong Hanwoo BBQ Experience runs October 23–November 6 at selected restaurants in Majang Meat Market. Hanwoo is Korean beef. The program is aimed at foreign residents and international visitors in Seoul and advertises up to KRW 30,000 per person toward the cost of grilled Hanwoo.
If a restaurant meal is your main goal, look at the participating restaurants and the program’s eligibility conditions instead of the workshop calendar. This is a separate restaurant experience from the DDP groceries or a cooking class. Because it runs to November 6, visitors arriving in early November can still use it; the main Taste of Seoul festival ends on October 29.
Dates, costs and language before you choose
The Korean program page and Seoul’s October 14 announcement list the DDP market for October 24–25, noon–5pm. The English market page shows October 25–26, so confirm the date with the organizer before a special trip. Check general market admission arrangements, food prices and your chosen activity’s fee. For Hanwoo, check the benefit’s participation and redemption conditions rather than assuming a free meal or automatic discount. English web pages and the English-led rice workshop do not establish language support for other activities. Ask about the language used for your chosen tour or class.
From a program choice to the right destination
For a neighborhood tour, rely on the program’s meeting instructions, not just the neighborhood name: Seochon’s palace-area theme describes the experience but not where participants gather. If you already plan a palace-area day, the Seochon program may fit that day without adding a separate neighborhood. Save the listing with its arrival instructions before you set out.
For DDP, use Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station on subway Lines 2, 4 or 5. Exit 1 is closest to the B2-level entrance toward Oullim Square. The square is the destination for the Grocery Market; Art Hall 1 is the named venue for the Chefs’ Market and workshops.
Choose one program on the official Taste of Seoul website, then confirm its latest date, venue, participation requirements and any updates before visiting.
