Gimhae Airport to Seomyeon: Changing Trains at Sasang

From Gimhae Airport, take the Busan-Gimhae light rail to Sasang, then change to Busan Metro Line 2 for Seomyeon. Choose this route if you are comfortable changing trains; the Seomyeon/Bujeon limousine bus is an alternative if you would rather stay on one vehicle.

Sasang is your transfer station, not your final stop. Follow signs for the different rail service there and choose the Line 2 platform that includes Seomyeon on its route. The rail option involves handling your bags through the change, while the bus stops at a specific point in the Seomyeon area rather than at every hotel.

Finding the light rail at Gimhae Airport

Follow the signs at Gimhae Airport for the Busan-Gimhae light rail. Before boarding, look for Sasang on the route information and choose the train heading that way. The name you need first is Sasang; looking only for Seomyeon on the light-rail display may be confusing because the second part of the journey is on the metro.

If you have just arrived with luggage, take a moment to get your transportation card and destination details ready. A note on your phone with the two station names, Sasang and Seomyeon, can help if you need to ask for directions. Show both names to staff so they know you are changing trains rather than ending your trip at Sasang.

For a late arrival at Gimhae Airport, check the light-rail and metro timetables together before committing to this route. Your flight arrival time is not the same as the time you reach a train: allow for airport formalities and collecting any checked bags. Compare the connection with the next bus from your terminal; if neither fits, ask airport staff about other transport.

Making the change at Sasang

Leave the light rail at Sasang and follow signs for Busan Metro Line 2. Keep your transportation card available and follow the gate and card-reader instructions along the way. If you cannot see where to go, ask station staff for the Line 2 connection rather than guessing which exit to use.

At the Line 2 platform, check the station map or display for Seomyeon before boarding. The other platform serves the opposite direction. You are looking for a train whose route continues through Gamjeon, Jurye, Naengjeong, Gaegeum, Dongeui Univ., Gaya and Buam before reaching Seomyeon.

Those intermediate names give you a way to check the direction even if Seomyeon is not the largest name on a sign. Busan Transportation Corporation's Line 2 station list includes the stations in this stretch. On the train, watch the station displays and get off at Seomyeon.

If you board in the wrong direction, get off when you realize the mistake and ask station staff how to continue toward Seomyeon. They can help you find the correct platform without assuming that you need to leave the station and start over.

Cards, the transfer window and the fare

For the regional transfer discount, use a participating transportation card and tap when leaving a service. Busan City's guidance lists prepaid Cashbee, Mybi and Hanaro cards among the participating cards. It also says an insufficient balance prevents the discount, so check that your card has enough value before starting from Gimhae Airport.

Use the same eligible card for both rail services. At Sasang, pay attention to the card readers and signs instead of assuming the change works exactly like a transfer on a single metro line. If the reader does not accept your card or you are unsure what to do, ask staff for help before continuing.

A Yangsan City notice says the regional transfer surcharge was removed from September 19, 2025 for participating services including Busan urban rail and the Busan-Gimhae light rail. The notice specifies a transfer within 30 minutes after alighting and permits up to two transfers. A difference between fares can still be charged, so removal of the surcharge does not make the whole journey free.

Check the current fare before you leave, including any fare difference that may apply to your journey. A foreign bank card should not be assumed to work as a Korean transportation card simply because it works for ordinary purchases. If you are relying on a card not named in Busan City's guidance, ask whether it is eligible before starting the journey.

The time limit matters if you plan to stop at Sasang. If you leave the train and take a long break before boarding the connecting service, you may miss the stated transfer window. A traveler who wants to explore Sasang first should budget for a separate onward fare rather than depend on the discount.

Traveling with bags or after a late flight

The rail route can suit you if handling your bags during a change is manageable. If you have several large cases, are traveling with someone who needs a lift, or would find a transfer difficult after a long flight, compare it with the direct limousine stop before setting off.

Do not assume a particular lift or escalator is available at the transfer. Check current station information in advance or ask staff about an accessible route. It also helps to have the address of your accommodation ready: Seomyeon is the station name, but your accommodation may still be some distance from the exit or bus stop you choose.

A useful choice depends on what happens after you reach the area. If your accommodation is close to the Seomyeon Station limousine stop, avoiding the rail change may be worth waiting for the bus. If it is closer to a station exit, the train may leave you with a more convenient walk. Compare those last stretches with your actual bags in mind.

When the limousine bus is a better fit

The Seomyeon/Bujeon airport limousine avoids the rail change. It stops at Seomyeon Station by the Lotte Hotel and Department Store, which may be convenient if that stop is near your accommodation. The trade-off is that you need a departure that fits your arrival, and the stop may not be the closest point to every hotel in the area.

Gimhae Airport lists boarding at platform 3 on the first floor of both terminals. Busan City lists an adult fare of approximately KRW 6,000 for the Seomyeon/Bujeon route; fares can change. The city also lists different fares for middle- and high-school students and for elementary-school children, so families should check the applicable category rather than multiply the adult price for every passenger.

Accepted-payment guidance differs between official sources, so check at the ticket machine or with staff before relying on a particular payment card. Busan City also lists advance booking through the Bustago app and says a transportation card can be used for walk-up boarding when seats remain. Do not assume that a particular overseas card will be accepted.

For more detail on the stop and payment, see the Gimhae Airport to Seomyeon by Limousine Bus guide. The bus is a different choice from the regional rail transfer: Busan City says the limousine does not provide a free transfer, so allow separately for any onward journey.
