Take Line 2 from Haeundae, change to Line 1 at Seomyeon and continue to Busan Station. Here is what to consider before setting off.

To reach Busan Station from Haeundae Station, take Busan Metro Line 2 to Seomyeon, change to Line 1 and get off at Busan Station. This is a useful option if you can manage your luggage during the change and the train times fit your plans.

If you are starting near Haeundae Beach rather than the subway station, compare the walk to the station with the bus alternative before deciding. A heavy suitcase, an early departure or an onward train can change which option makes sense.

Start from your accommodation

Haeundae is the name of a wider area as well as a subway station. Before leaving your accommodation, find your actual starting point on a map and look up the walk to Haeundae Station. A location described as being near the beach is not necessarily beside the station entrance.

Consider the walk with your bags, not just the route on the screen. If you are traveling as a group, decide who will carry each bag before you set off. A bag that rolls easily on a flat surface may be awkward when you have to move through a station or change platforms.

Keep the names Haeundae, Seomyeon and Busan Station handy on your phone or on paper. They describe the start, transfer and destination. Showing the names to station staff can help if you are unsure which signs to follow.

Choose a ticket before the gates

Visit Busan's transportation guide says single-use QR tickets are available at station ticket machines. The fare depends on distance, so select Busan Station and look at the amount displayed before buying. Keep the ticket accessible for the journey rather than putting it inside a packed suitcase.

A rechargeable transportation card is another option. Hanaro, T-money and Cashbee are among the cards listed for transit use; they can be recharged at metro station machines and convenience stores. If you already have a card, check that its balance covers the displayed fare. A card may be useful if you expect to take more transit trips, while a single-use ticket is an option for this journey alone.

Do not rely solely on a foreign bank card at the gate or ticket machine: acceptance has not been confirmed. If you are unsure how to pay for a ticket or recharge, ask station staff before entering. Sort out payment while you still have time, particularly if you are heading for a booked train.

Take Line 2 to Seomyeon

At Haeundae Station, look for Line 2 and use the platform map to find the train traveling toward Seomyeon. Trains run in different directions, so match the stations shown on the map with your transfer point before boarding. If the display is unclear, show the station names to a staff member.

Once on board, watch the station display and get off at Seomyeon. This is the change of lines, not the end of the trip. Gather your ticket or card and all your bags before leaving the train, especially if several people are traveling together.

If the stations you pass do not match the route toward Seomyeon, get off and ask how to return to the correct platform. Correcting a wrong-direction trip early is more useful than waiting for the transfer station to appear.

Change lines for Busan Station

After leaving the Line 2 train at Seomyeon, follow the signs for Line 1. The transfer uses internal connecting passages; follow those signs rather than exiting through the fare gates. At the Line 1 platform, use the map to choose the direction that serves Busan Station.

Take your time with the transfer if you are carrying several bags. You need to move everything from one platform to the other, so a journey that starts comfortably can still involve a difficult change. If you become separated from your group, pause in a safe place and regroup before boarding.

Get off at Busan Station and follow the signs for the exit or onward train area you need. The metro arrival point is not the departure platform for a train. Keep your onward booking details available so you can identify the service and departure area after you leave the subway.

Luggage, access and a fixed departure

For an onward train, allow room in your plans for the walk to Haeundae Station, the subway change and finding your departure platform. A departure time on your booking is different from the time you reach the metro station. The length of each part depends on your circumstances, so check the whole connection rather than assuming a journey time.

If you use a wheelchair, need a lift or cannot comfortably move your luggage between platforms, ask station staff about the accessible route and current lift availability before traveling. The exact path and lift operation are not confirmed here. If the route does not meet your needs, ask about another way to make the trip.

Early and late journeys need special attention. First and last trains vary by station, as do service intervals. Look up the departure from Haeundae and the connecting Line 1 service at Seomyeon: being able to board the first train does not by itself mean the connection to Busan Station will work. If it does not fit your schedule, arrange another transport option before setting out and check its cost and availability separately.

Starting near Haeundae Beach?

Visit Busan also lists bus 1003 from Haeundae Beach to Busan Station. That can be worth comparing when your accommodation is nearer the beach, but the beach and Haeundae Station are different starting points. Check the current stop, schedule, fare and payment options for your day of travel.

Luggage may affect the bus decision. Visit Busan's transportation guidance lists a per-person limit of under 20 kg and dimensions under 50 × 40 × 20 cm, and says larger suitcases cannot be brought aboard. Check the current rules and conditions for bus 1003 before departure. If your bag may not be accepted, compare the subway transfer or ask staff about another option.

Compare the complete trip, not only the ride: consider how you will reach the boarding point and where you need to go after arrival. A route that saves a walk at the start may still leave you with a walk at the other end.

Plan the walk on either side

Korea Map Apps for Your First Trip can help you compare the walk to the station and your onward route. For a different Busan connection, Gimhae Airport to Seomyeon: Changing Trains at Sasang covers the airport route through Sasang. Both guides are linked below.

Fares, train times and station facilities can change. Check current details at the station or with staff before setting out. Last checked: November 8, 2026.
